About Us

Based on the picturesque Gold Coast, Queensland, Beyond the Horizon is a newly established, bespoke End-of-Life planning, Companionship, and Legacy Creation boutique supporting both Travellers and their Circles.

We believe every person deserves to be seen, heard and supported throughout one of life's most significant transitions. While death is often approached as a medical event, we recognise it as a deeply human experience shaped by relationships, memories, wishes and the legacy we leave behind.

Every journey is unique, which is why our support is tailored to the individual and the people who matter most to them. From companionship and practical assistance to difficult conversations, legacy creation and ongoing circle support, we walk alongside you with compassion, dignity and authenticity.

Working alongside healthcare providers, we complement medical care by focusing on the emotional, practical and personal aspects of the journey, helping preserve memories, honour wishes and create space for meaningful conversations.

Our support extends beyond the Traveller. We continue to support the Circle before, during and after the journey through guidance, planning, remembrance and legacy preservation, ensuring no one has to navigate grief alone.

A message from our Founder

There are moments in life that remind us what truly matters.

Not achievements.

Not possessions.

Not status.

People.

Connection.

Being seen, heard and supported.

Beyond the Horizon was created from a simple belief: every Traveller deserves to complete their journey with peace, dignity and the comfort of knowing they do not walk it alone.

Too often, people face life's final chapter feeling isolated, unheard or unsupported. Families become overwhelmed, difficult conversations are avoided, wishes go unspoken, and grief becomes something people are expected to carry alone.

That has never felt right to me.

Beyond the Horizon exists because I believe there should always be someone willing to stay.

Someone willing to listen.

Someone willing to walk alongside a Traveller and their Circle when the path becomes uncertain.

While healthcare providers focus on medical care, our role is to complement that support by focusing on the emotional, practical and deeply personal aspects of the journey. We create space for meaningful conversations, help preserve memories, honour wishes and support the people who matter most.

The name Beyond the Horizon holds special meaning.

For the Traveller, it represents the horizon they are approaching.

For the Circle, it represents the journey that continues after their loved one has completed theirs.

We cannot see beyond the horizon, nor do we know what lies beyond it. But we can walk beside those we love until we can go no further, helping them feel safe, supported and at peace as they approach it.

That is the heart of this work.

My hope is simple: that every Traveller feels seen, heard and supported; peace instead of panic, trust instead of uncertainty, and connection instead of loneliness. That they know their wishes matter and will continue to be honoured, even when they can no longer speak for themselves.

My hope for every Circle is equally simple: that they never feel alone, and that they are left not only with grief, but with memories. Conversations that were had. Stories that were preserved. Letters that were written. Moments that might otherwise have been lost.

Because long after a Traveller has completed their journey, those memories continue to grow.

Just like love does.

Perhaps most importantly, I believe support should not disappear when the Traveller completes their journey.

The Circle's journey continues. That is why Beyond the Horizon remains alongside the Circle before, during and after the journey, helping preserve legacies, honour memories and ensuring no one feels they must carry the weight of loss alone.

When I imagine the future of Beyond the Horizon, I do not measure success by the number of services delivered. I measure it by the number of people who felt supported when they needed it most. The number of Travellers who completed their journey with peace. The number of Circles who felt less alone. The number of stories preserved, wishes honoured, and people who discovered that even in life's most difficult moments, someone was willing to stay.

If Beyond the Horizon succeeds, the world will have more love, more peace and more connection—and a little less loneliness, sadness and fear.

That is the future I hope to help create.

One Traveller.

One Circle.

One journey at a time.

Every Traveller deserves to be seen, heard and supported.

With gratitude,

Founder

What we can provide

Here you'll find a breakdown of the services & supports Beyond the Horizon can provide for you.

End-of-Life planning

End-of-life planning provides clarity, comfort and peace of mind for both the Traveller and their Circle. Through thoughtful conversations and practical preparation, we help ensure wishes are understood, important decisions are documented, and loved ones feel supported throughout the journey ahead.

Companionship

Companionship is the heart of what we do. Whether through conversation, quiet presence, practical support or simply being there when it matters most, we walk alongside Travellers and their Circle with compassion, dignity and genuine human connection.

Legacy Creation

Every life tells a story worth preserving. Our legacy creation services help capture memories, values, wisdom and personal stories through letters, journals, recordings, keepsakes and other meaningful projects that can be treasured for generations to come.

Workbooks & Guided Resources

Our thoughtfully designed workbooks and guided resources help Travellers and their Circle navigate important conversations, reflect on meaningful memories, document wishes and create lasting legacies at their own pace. They provide gentle guidance through some of life's most significant moments.

Memorial & Celebrancy Services

Every life deserves to be remembered and honoured in a way that feels authentic. Our memorial and celebrancy services help families create meaningful farewells, remembrance ceremonies and legacy tributes that reflect the unique story, values and impact of the Traveller's life.

Frequently Asked Questions

End-of-life planning is making clear choices now so your wishes are followed later. It means writing down medical preferences (who makes decisions if you can’t, and what treatments you want or don’t want), putting legal and financial papers in order (will, power of attorney), and noting funeral or memorial wishes. Simple, plain words are best so loved ones and professionals can read and act quickly — for legal forms, get a lawyer or an authorised adviser to check them.

Do three basic things: say what matters to you in writing, name who should decide and who to call, and keep the key papers in one easy place. Also plan for practical support and how the family — including children — will be cared for after; that helps preserve dignity and eases the load on your Circle. Doing this now reduces confusion, protects your choices, and leaves the people you love with clearer, kinder steps when they need them most.

A Companion is someone who walks alongside a Traveller and their Circle during one of life’s most difficult journeys.

At Beyond the Horizon, a Companion provides emotional support, practical guidance and a calm, reassuring presence for both the Traveller and those who care about them.

While the professional title is End-of-Life Doula, we prefer the term Companion because it better reflects the heart of what we do.

Our role is not to lead the journey or tell people what to do. Our role is to walk beside them, offering support, guidance and companionship when it is needed most.

Legacy creation is about deciding how you want to be remembered and making sure the people you love have what they need. It can include simple things like letters, a journal, voice or video messages, and clear notes about your wishes, care, and money matters. It can also mean small ceremonies or ways to pass on your stories and values. The goal is to turn good intentions into clear, easy-to-find pieces that guide and comfort your family and friends when it counts. In practice, we work out what matters most, put it in plain words, and record anything you want to say. We gather the key papers (like wills), make easy fill‑in pages and checklists, decide who should get what information, and choose simple moments that feel like you. Done well, this lightens the load in a hard time, helps your Circle make decisions, and leaves those who come after with useful guidance and a true sense of who you are — small steps now that make a big difference later.

Because our support doesn’t end when the Traveller’s journey does.

Many services focus solely on the person approaching the end of life. While that support is incredibly important, we believe the Circle deserves care too.

For up to three months following a death, we remain available to support the Circle however they may need us.

Sometimes that support is emotional. Sometimes it is practical. Often it is a combination of both.

Beyond the Horizon was created on the belief that nobody should have to approach the horizon alone.

Not the Traveller.

And not the people they leave behind.

You may notice that we use some words differently at Beyond the Horizon—and that's intentional.

Words carry meaning, especially during life's most significant moments.

Throughout our website, you'll see the terms Traveller, Circle and Companion.

A Traveller is the person approaching the end of life.

A Circle is made up of the people who matter most to them—family, friends, partners, carers, neighbours, or anyone walking beside them.

A Companion is the person providing support, guidance and companionship throughout the journey.

We use these terms because we believe end-of-life care is about more than appointments, paperwork and medical treatment. It is a deeply human experience that touches everyone involved.

Every Traveller deserves support.

Every Circle deserves care.

And every journey deserves companionship.

We support both the Traveller and their Circle.

Whether you are navigating a recent diagnosis, caring for someone you love, planning ahead, or simply seeking guidance, support is available.

You do not need a referral, and you do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Many of our first conversations are with members of the Circle who are looking for information, support or reassurance.

If you’re unsure whether Beyond the Horizon is right for you, we encourage you to start with a conversation.

Whenever it feels right.

Some Travellers reach out shortly after receiving a diagnosis. Others contact us much later in their journey.

There is no perfect time to ask for support.

Many people assume Companion support is only for the final days or weeks of life. In reality, support can begin months or even years earlier.

Our first conversation is simply an opportunity to connect, learn about your circumstances and explore what support may be helpful.

There is no pressure and no obligation.

Every journey is different, which means every person’s needs are different.

Support may include:

• Emotional support and companionship • Support for the Circle • Advance care planning • Legacy projects and keepsakes • The Traveller’s Journal • Difficult conversations • Funeral planning guidance • Vigil support • Bereavement support • Referrals to helpful services and resources

Most importantly, and one of the things that makes Beyond the Horizon different, our support does not automatically end when the Traveller’s journey does.

For up to three months following a death, we continue supporting the Circle as they begin navigating life without their loved one.

For some people, this may simply mean regular check-ins and a listening ear.

For others, it may include practical support such as helping with groceries, contacting service providers, distributing the Traveller’s Journal and keepsakes, assisting with paperwork, or simply being there when support is needed most.

There is no checklist, no timetable and no expectation.

Our role is to continue walking beside the Circle while they find their footing again.

Absolutely.

While much of our support focuses on the Traveller, we believe caring for the Circle is just as important.

Members of the Circle are often balancing emotions, responsibilities, uncertainty and grief all at the same time.

Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, struggling with difficult conversations, navigating conflict, supporting children through the journey, or simply needing someone to talk to, support is available.

You do not have to carry everything on your own.

Many support services naturally come to an end after a death occurs.

At Beyond the Horizon, we understand that grief doesn’t follow a schedule.

For many people, the weeks and months after a funeral can be the hardest part of the journey.

The visitors have gone home. Life begins to move forward. Yet grief is often only just beginning to settle in.

This is why we continue supporting the Circle for up to three months following a death.

Whether that support is emotional, practical or simply a regular check-in, our relationship doesn’t have to end when a life does.

You do not have to navigate those early months alone.

Not everyone has a large Circle, and some Travellers have little or no support around them. Beyond the Horizon is here for those people too.

Whether your Circle is made up of one person, several people, or no one at all, we provide compassionate support, companionship and guidance throughout the journey. Our role is to ensure that no one feels they must face this chapter of life alone.

Absolutely. Beyond the Horizon is designed to complement, not replace, the support provided by doctors, nurses, palliative care teams, social workers, counsellors and other professionals.

While healthcare providers focus on medical care, we focus on the emotional, practical and personal aspects of the journey, helping ensure the Traveller and their Circle feel supported every step of the way.

No.

We do not provide medical treatment, nursing care or medical advice.

Your doctors, nurses and healthcare providers remain responsible for your medical care.

Our role is different.

We focus on the emotional, practical and personal aspects of the journey while working alongside your existing healthcare team to ensure the Traveller and their Circle feel supported throughout the process.

Yes.

Many Travellers feel most comfortable in familiar surroundings, and we are happy to provide support wherever possible.

This may include your home, hospital, hospice, aged care facility or another location that feels right for you.

Beyond the Horizon is based on the Gold Coast, however we understand that some journeys require a greater level of companionship and support.

In certain circumstances, we may be able to travel or temporarily relocate to remain close to a Traveller and their Circle during particularly important stages of their journey.

If distance is a concern, please reach out. Together, we can explore what support may be possible.

Phone and video appointments are also available when appropriate.

The Traveller’s wishes will always be respected.

Sometimes members of the Circle reach out before the Traveller is ready to engage.

In these situations, we can often still provide guidance, information and support to the Circle while respecting the Traveller’s choices and independence.

Support should never feel forced.

Yes.

Trust is incredibly important during this journey.

Everything shared with Beyond the Horizon is treated with respect and confidentiality, except where we are legally required to act to protect someone’s safety.

Absolutely.

Every Traveller’s journey is unique.

We respect and support people from all faiths, cultures, beliefs and backgrounds, including those who do not identify with a religion.

Our role is not to tell you what your journey should look like.

Our role is to support the journey that feels right for you.

Because every journey is unique, support is tailored to the needs of each Traveller and their Circle.

We offer flexible support options based on the level of care and companionship required.

The best place to start is with a conversation, where we can discuss your circumstances and provide information about available support options and pricing.
